with Eray Gülay

Voguing is a dance style that emerged in Harlem, New York, in the 1980s. This unique form of expression, which emerged from the POC and LGBTQIA+ community there, opened up a free space in which you can empower yourself, celebrate your own identity and question social norms. Voguing is a celebration of creativity, courage and individuality. The workshop is an introduction and focuses on movement, empowerment and the rich history of ballroom culture.

Eray Gülay is a versatile creative artist who works in the fields of dance, choreography, community work and much more. In his work, he attaches great importance to diversity and the creation of an inclusive space. An integral part of the ballroom scene for over a decade, Gülay gives international voguing workshops, teaches voguing at tanzhaus nrw and can be seen as a guest dancer at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf. He is passionately committed to the LGBTQIA+ community and, as co-founder of the Shapes & Shades association, continues to promote diversity and acceptance by organising panel talks, workshops and balls. His career as a stage dancer has led him to collaborate with dance companies such as Folkwang Tanzstudio, Ben J. Riepe Kompanie and MOUVOIR / Stephanie Thiersch, as well as stage productions by Jérôme Bel and Reinhild Hoffmann. He has demonstrated his versatility as a dancer and choreographer in music videos for Salomea, Frida Gold and, on a long-term basis, for Matthew Wood. As a choreographer, he has created performances for the Offene Jazz Haus Schule in Cologne and the Strike A Pose Festival in Düsseldorf.
