Archives collect, organize, and preserve records of the past. Every decision about what is preserved also determines what will be passed on to the future and under what conditions history can be remembered, recounted, and interpreted in the future. Archives are thus not only repositories of the past but also infrastructures of possible futures.
“Future Archives / Archive Futures” takes this temporal intertwining as its starting point and explores how archiving practices are changing, what other forms of memory and knowledge production may emerge from them—and which futures archives are already contributing to generate today?
