Penelope Wehrli: „15 Buchstaben – 207 Wörter“ (2020–2025)
It is with a heavy heart that we have emptied the spaces and basements of Galerie Nord. We have sorted through countless files, we packed boxes, gave things away, disposed of items, and stored many things in a temporary storage of hope.
We had to involuntarily lay off people, received a lot of solidarity, but also had to experience some withdrawal of solidarity.
What remains?
An art association without a space.
A huge void left behind by our program in Berlin’s artistic and cultural landscape and among the municipal galleries.
The destruction of a long-standing, successful structure of artistic and thematic diversity in the Moabit district.
Widespread outrage over the way we were treated under the guise of administrative regulations.
Our legal objection to an opaque and flawed award procedure.
Irritation at the district mayor’s delay in talking to us about the spatial and financial future of the Kunstverein Tiergarten in Moabit.
What counts?
Solidarity in the long run – from inside and outside!
Our confidence that we will be able to continue our program at a new location!
Our advocacy for fair and transparent award procedures!
Our perseverance and determination!
What’s happening?
We are not giving up and will continue!
We will not be discouraged by the current difficult cultural policy situation in Berlin.
We are actively looking for new spaces and reliable partners.
We are continuing to work on exhibiting and promoting contemporary art.
We will remain an active part of Berlin’s cultural landscape.
