Helen Adkins is a freelance art historian who has lived in Berlin since 1986. She studied at the University of Freiburg until 1984 and received her doctorate from the Braunschweig University of Art in 2008, where she taught until 2018.
From 1996 to 2002, she ran the commercial gallery museumsakademie in Berlin-Mitte. As a freelance curator, she has organised numerous exhibitions, including at the Berlinische Galerie, the Kommunale Galerie Berlin, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Montréal and the Pushkin Museum, Moscow. She has also worked for the Jewish Museum Berlin and the Sydney Biennale. Adkins has published on contemporary artists, photography, Dada, the classical avant-garde and its relationship to contemporary practice and is also a consultant and translator.
