“Yours Faithfully” presents a selection of works by 80 artists in specially developed spatial installations by Karen Scheper and Pfelder. All of them have special ties to Galerie Nord | Kunstverein Tiergarten and its long-time artistic director Ralf F. Hartmann.
Over the past 13 years, Galerie Nord has made a decisive contribution to placing Moabit on the map of Berlin’s art scene. In addition to the more than 600 artists who have presented their work here during this time, this is primarily thanks to Ralf F. Hartmann, who shaped the face of Galerie Nord as artistic director from 2004 to 2017. With over 100 exhibitions and numerous special events, he developed a programme that brought both supraregional and international artistic positions to Moabit and gave equal importance to the local. Open to a wide variety of artistic questions, political debates and interdisciplinary approaches, Ralf F. Hartmann has never changed his stance, but he has often changed his perspective in order to put the most diverse topics in ever new light. The artists exhibiting at Galerie Nord appreciate this openness and share his passionate commitment to art, which has not least ensured steadily increasing visitor numbers.
Now Ralf F. Hartmann has moved his professional field of work to Spandau as the new head of the cultural office. All those who have worked with him are certain: the fortress walls of the Citadel will be as little of an obstacle to his ambitious projects as the water that surrounds the Moabit island.
The Kunstverein and the participating artists thank the long-time artistic director not only with words and flowers, but also with this opulent exhibition, which reviews the past 13 years in many forms: Videos, sculptures, performances, drawings, paintings and photographs conquer the rooms of Galerie Nord in playful systems of order and vegetative growth. Growing and always creating new contexts, the exhibition looks back with joy and forward with confidence: the conclusion and at the same time the highlight is a charity auction of the 80 works on display on 22 October, the proceeds of which are intended to improve the Kunstverein’s difficult financial situation. This multifaceted retrospective is thus also an investment in the future.
