Finissage
6 pm: Curators’ tour
7 pm: Concert performance “itinerant interlude #88 – Solo für Stimme & Objekte”
Ute Wassermann, voice and object, with a DJ set afterwards by JD Zazie
Multiphonic trills and yodels, loops of ululations, sudden percussive outbursts, warbling glissandi…. Ute Wassermann masks her voice with various bird and palate whistles and percussion objects. She transforms into many vocal beings with sculptural, oscillating, swirling tone-colour. Her voice dissolves into the sound of birds and insects, machines, electronics, scraps of otherworldly language. Does her voice remain human or does it become the other?
Ute Wassermann is a vocal artist, composer-performer and improviser. She tours worldwide as a vocal performer, she realises audiovisual performances and composes for soloists and ensembles. Her multidimensional singing makes her voice oscillate between electronic, inorganic human and animal qualities. In addition, she alienates and expands her voice with bird and palate whistles, objects, acoustic costumes or various microphones. Ute Wassermann has premiered numerous works written for her with well-known ensembles and orchestras. She has received commissions from: MaerzMusik, University of Amsterdam, Poetica Sonora Mexico City, Ryogoku Art Festival Japan, Transart Festival Bozen, Musik der Jahrhunderte, maulwerker and Distractfold Ensemble. Releases on labels: mode, nurnichtnur, creative sources, ABC Classic, Psi, treader, olof bright.
JD Zazie is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist and sound artist based in Berlin. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background JD Zazie has explored different approaches to real-time manipulation of fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups, and in large ensembles, she works in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what could be defined as DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music. She is a member of Reanimation Orchestra, plays regularly solo and duos with Heidrun Schramm and with Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø. She is the art director of the MuseRuole – women in experimental music festival, a member of the Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Colaboradio and on Reboot.fm.
The project itinerant interludes is supported by inm – initiative neue musik Berlin e. V. and curated by Laurie Schwartz.
